Virat Kohli will captain the home series against South Africa. Rohit Sharma could not make a comeback in Team India. During the fifth and final T20 match of the New Zealand tour (on 2 February), he suffered a hamstring injury to his left foot. Because of this, Rohit had to be out of not only the ODI series but also the Test series against New Zealand.

The 34-year-old opener Shikhar Dhawan has also returned. On January 19, he was injured against Australia in the third and decisive ODI played in Bengaluru. Shikhar Dhawan’s left shoulder was injured in that match. Apart from Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar also entered the DY Patil T20 Cup.
