The Rajasthan Royals are a Franchise cricket team. It is also called RR. It is based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, that plays in the Indian Premier League. RR is founded in 2008 as one of the initial eight IPL Franchises. The RR is considered as the Moneyball team of the IPL. The Royals have the high potential talent and their involvement in a number of controversies and scandals.
The RR won the Inaugural edition of the IPL under the capacity of Shane Warne. In the 2013 Champions League T20, the royals were runners up under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy. The verdict extended by a panel scheduled by the supreme court of India abstained Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings for two years over a 2013 betting scandal, on 14 July 2015. that’s mean they could not engage in both the 2016 and 2017 IPL tournaments. Team’s Home Ground: The home ground of the team is the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. It was built the reign of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh ll. In one corner of Rambagh Circle, it is situated. The stadium’s capacity is 30,000 and is one of the best in India after the 2006 renovation. The Sardar Patel Stadium which is located in Ahmedabad is the second home ground and its capacity is 1,10,000 hosted the Rajasthan Royals home matches. In 2014, it was built.
The Royals home games in the 2018 IPL season host by the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur after Rajasthan Royals abstained for two years in 2015 and after the stadium was banned to host matches for four years.
Background:
In September 2007, The Board of Control for Cricket in India declared the establishment of the Indian Premier League, a Twenty20 competition to be started in 2008. In 2008, The Rajasthan Royals were one of the original eight teams in the inaugural season of the IPL. Emerging Media bought the team by $67 million, making it the least expensive team in the League.
Manoj Badale is currently the owner and chairman of the team. The Franchise Group acquired for $67 million. In 2010, There past controversies regarding the ownership of the Franchise, leading to their removal from the League. In the Indian Premier League, this was the least expensive Franchise and at the beginning of the tournament, it is probably the least fancied team in the League. In 2009, It made a profit of $7.5 million.
The BCCI determined to expel Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals from the IPL, in 2010. Captain Shane Warne who stated that he suspected that there might be some foul play. The team was banned for two years following the Lodha Committee inquiry in 2015. Rajasthan Royals became the source of contention when unsuitable and fictitious bids were made.
Seasons:
2008 IPL Season: Before the IPL started, the Royals as possibly the weakest team in the IPL, giving them a chance of completing well in the tournament. When the team lost its first match against Delhi Daredevils in a 9 wicket loss the evidence of the letter opinion appeared to be confirmed. The team was likely to struggle.
In Jaipur at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, their first home game ever against the Kings XI Punjab and won by 6 wickets as Shane Watson was announced the man of the match for his unbeaten 76 off 49 balls in what was a successful run chase. In Hyderabad, that was followed by a crucial 3 wicket win against the season favorite, Deccan Chargers.
The victory manifested to be an enormous booster. The first man of the match goes to Yusuf Pathan award for his bowling figures of 2/20 in 4 overs and a 28-ball 61. And the next match they won by 45 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders where the man of the match goes to Swapnil Asnodkar and this is his first man of the match award for a fine knock of 60 off just 34 balls.
They defeat the Chennai Super Kings in Jaipur but lost to Mumbai Indians in Navi Mumbai. The RR continued to win the next five games. They were the first team who book a place in the Semi-Finals with 65 run win against the over Challengers Bangalore and were marked against Chennai Super Kings for the finals. On 1st June 2008, the Royals won by 3 wickets in the final play.
Shane Watson who is all-rounder won the man of the tournament award for scoring as many as 472 runs and picking 17 wickets. His captaincy and coaching were commended and well received by everyone in including opposition teams.
IPL Season 2009: The RR were the defending champions. In the competition, Rajasthan Royals ended 6th out of the 8 teams, winning 6 matches out of the 14 they played. in semi-finals, the Royals failed to make it after losing their last two matches against Delhi capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
It was declared that Rajasthan Royals would meet Middlesex Crusaders in a one-off T20 for the British Asian cup, on 14 May 2009. That was the first time when an annual charity series was to be played between the T20 champions of the two countries.
On 6 July 2009, the match took place. On 3 July 2009, The teams declared with Rajasthan Royals including Mohammad Kaif and the comeback of Sohail Tanvir. Rajasthan Royals won the match by 46 runs after scoring 162/5 in 20 overs and successfully defending it by 46 runs. Dimitri Mascarenhas was the man of the match.
IPL 2010 Season: The RR was back In India when their average outing in South Africa. At that time they seemed to be a better outfit as they were to play in conditions that should have suited them the most. In the Brabourne stadium In Mumbai, Royals had to suffer an unfortunate start to the competition, with a narrow 4 run defeat to the Mumbai Indians.
The underlined as this match though, was Yusuf Pathan hitting the fastest ever hundred in IPL history, off only 37 balls. Mumbai fans were disappointed not to see Rajasthan win. In Ahmedabad, one of their home ground They went on to lose to the Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets. And again bruised badly by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who won by 10 wickets.
The team winning their next four matches consecutively. Abhishek jhunjhunwala impressed against the franchise representing his home state. KKR as his 36-ball 45 helped the Royals win by 34 runs. Adam Voges who is the Australian batsman hit 45 runs off 24 balls to help Rajasthan beat Punjab in Mohali by 31 runs. RR finished the tournament miserably with losses to Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore at home and the KKR in the last round-robin game in Kolkata. They failed the second playoffs consecutive season as they finished 7th out of the eight teams in the competition.
IPL Season 2011: The Kings XI Punjab and the Rajasthan Royals were temporarily ejected from the League due to issues with their unreported ownership changes. The BCCI required the incorporation of the companies.
The team management determined to retain the Australian Shane Warne and Shane Watson for the three IPL seasons, although Warne’s future continued to be uncertain. The team funds were reduced since they were penalized by the BCCI in 2010 as a result, they had to pay a certain amount of bank guarantee as fixed by the high court, in the auction.
They supervised to buy back Shaun Tait who is an Australian fast bowler for US$300,000 as well as Johan Botha who is the all-rounder of South Africa for US$950,000. Ross Taylor who is a batsman of New-Zealand is picked up for US$ 1million as well as The Wall Rahul Dravid for half that price.
IPL Season 2012: In season 5th of IPL, Rajasthan Royals ended in 7th place among the point table winning only seven matches out of sixteen.
IPL Season 2013: In the group stage, Rajasthan Royals qualified for the playoffs by finishing third, thus grabbing a spot in Champions League 2013. In the eliminator, they won against Sunrises Hyderabad but lost to Mumbai Indians in the 2nd qualifier, which led to their exit from the tournament. Shane Watson has announced the man of the tournament. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila three players of the Rajasthan Royals were arrested from Mumbai by Delhi police along with eleven bookies on charges of spot-fixing in the tournament.
IPL Season 2014: Rajasthan Royals maintained five players: Ajinkya Rhane, Sanju Samson, Shane Watson, Stuart Binny and James Faulkner for the 7th season of the IPL. They scored 65 runs off the last 17 balls at a strike rate of 382.35 to win the match against RCB. Rahul Dravid played the role of a mentor and Shane Watson leads the side.
IPL Season 2018: The Rajasthan Royals made a comeback to IPL after two years of suspension, in 2018. In the 2018 IPL Auction, the RR retained Steve Smith for US$ 1.7million announcing him as captain for the 2018 season. In March 2018, following the ball-tampering controversy, Smith stepped down as Royals captain with Ajinkya Rhane appointed.
In the 2018 IPL Season, Smith was banned from playing following Steve Smith’s ban Heinrich Klaasen was declared as a replacement. The match against Delhi Capitals on 2nd May 2018, Jos Buttler scored the fastest ever 50 for Rajasthan Royals off just 18 balls. This was the fifth-fastest in IPL history. Rajasthan Royals lost the match by four runs after failing to make the revised target of 151 from 12 overs due to rain.
